Minori : Open School Event

On December 6th, we had our open school event (¸ø³«¸¦µæ²ñ). Close to 500 people from all over Japan came to watch our classes. Thank you for coming! Thank you to everyone who helped with the preparations and smooth running of the event, too.

The Minori students had their fourth class on the topic "What do you like?". You can see the previous three classes here:

The class started with greetings.
edited 2.jpg After greeting as a class the students did their usual greeting game. It helps everyone to get ready to study English.

After the greeting it was time for Teacher Talk. The class had a special visitor. Who is he?!

He had many different cards with pictures.
"I will give you a Christmas present."

The students could hear the question "What do you like?" over and over again. They also heard a lot of Christmas vocabulary.
"Christmas dinner! What do you like?"


Santa also brought many different decorations.

"Look! Let's use the decorations from Santa to decorate our Christmas tree!"

Ms. Hitomi and Ms. Emi showed a demonstration. There was a list of instructions, too.

Then, they went to the table with that color of decorations and ask again.
"What do you like?"

After the demonstration it was time for everyone to make pairs and try it themselves!

After receiving their decorations the students put them on the tree.

The students changes pairs and did the activity multiple times so they could receive many decorations. The finished tree looked like this:

Lastly, the students gave their reactions and sang a Christmas song together.

Minori : Let's make trees for our friends!

Minori students had their third class on the topic "What do you like?".

After doing our usual greeting game we reviewed what we had learned in the last class.

The teachers gave a demonstration of the main activity and practiced the names for shapes and colors.

First the students asked about colors.
"What do you like?"

Next, they went to the area with those colored stickers and asked about shapes.

Minori : Christmas shapes and colors

Minori students had their second class on the topic "What do you like?".

After the usual greeting game the class started with `Teacher Talk`.
"I like Christmas but I don't like snow. I don't like cold weather."

Next, we practiced how to say shapes and colors in English.

After that we played the pointing game. We did two versions. First, we played using colors and next we used shapes.
DSC_2737.jpg Everyone had to listen to Ms. Emily and point to the shape she said. They had to say the name of the shape while pointing.

Lastly, we played the `Touch something blue` game. Everyone had to find something in the room with the color that Ms. Emily said.

The teachers hid some shapes around the room, too. Everyone had to find the shape that Ms. Emily said.

Everyone enjoyed the class! It was fun!

Minori : Let's talk about Christmas!

Minori class have started studying English recently. The students already study English with other students in their grades. This year they will be studying English as a class as well. The topic is "What do you like?" and they will be studying about Christmas.

We started the class with a greeting game as usual. First we showed a teacher-student demonstration.

Next, everyone walked around the room and greeted each other.

During greeting time we used `Nice cards`. The teachers can add a sticker when they see the students with good eye contact, smiles and listening.

Next, Ms. Emily talked about Christmas in her country.
