Happy Halloween!

Did you enjoy Halloween? At Tomizawa Elementary School, we had a lot of fun! Some 6th grade and 4th grade students had English class and all the teachers dressed up. Everyone smiled a lot when they saw the teachers' costumes.

Can you tell what characters the teachers are?

Ms. Emily was Pikachu and she stayed like that all day! We called her Pikachu-Sensei!

5th Grade: White Rabbit¡Çs Color Book

5th Grade students are studying colors, shapes and asking ¡ÈWhat color/shape do you like?¡É as well as answering ¡ÈI like red/stars¡É. Ms. Goto introduced a new book to us called ¡ÆWhite Rabbit Story Book¡Ç. However, Ms. Goto didn¡Çt read us the book but instead she made props and acted out the story.

IMG_7003.jpg

The story was about a white rabbit who didn¡Çt like the color white. He wanted to become a colorful rabbit. He found some buckets of paint and jumped in to become many different colors.

IMG_7017.jpg

The students and Ms. Emily asked the rabbit ¡ÈDo you like (color)?¡É and each time the rabbit answered ¡ÈNo, I don¡Çt¡É. Finally the rabbit took a shower and became a white rabbit again. The students asked the rabbit ¡ÈWhat color do you like?¡É and the rabbit answered ¡ÈI like white!¡É. Then, the rabbit sang ¡ÆAri no mama¡Ç and everyone clapped. It was a great story!

Wednesday = Tomilish Time

On Wednesday mornings we have Tomilish Time. We usually watch the English TV broadcast in our classrooms but sometimes we go to some of the bigger rooms to do activities with other classes, too.

In Tomilish Time, Ms. Emily and Ms. Goto teach us new English phrases and songs.

IMG_5124.jpg

We also learn about foreign culture. Recently we have been learning about Scotland (Ms. Emily¡Çs home country). The teachers have help from some of the students to demonstrate the new English. Sometimes other teachers appear in the broadcast, too.

IMG_6415.jpg

We all look forward to see who will appear next (students and teachers)!

Recently we have been learning ¡ÆHead, Shoulders, Knees and Toes¡Ç.

IMG_6973.jpg

It¡Çs a very fun song to sing. This week we sang and danced faster and faster until we were very hot! It was a great challenge!

In the future we want to do Tomilish Time all together in the gym hall. We are looking forward to it!

1st Grade Zoo Visit

Recently, we have been learning about animals and numbers in English class. We learned how to ask ¡ÈHow many elephants?¡É and count together ¡ÈOne, two, three! Three elephants!¡É

On Tuesday October 18th, we went to Yagiyama Zoo. We saw many different animals and the baby red panda was especially cute!

IMG_6980.jpg

We counted the animals in English together. Also, if the students didn¡Çt know how to say an animal in English they asked me so we learned many new English animal names. We had so much fun but it was very tiring to walk around!

After the zoo, we went to Sendai Botanical Garden to have lunch. We were all very hungry after walking a lot at the zoo. The students' families had made delicious packed lunches, so everyone was very happy! After we ate lunch, we collected leaves and acorns to make an autumn craft. We found a dragonfly too!

On the bus back to school we sang many English songs. We sang ¡ÆHello Song¡Ç, ¡ÆHead, Shoulders, Knees and Toes¡Ç, and the ¡ÆSeven Steps Song¡Ç. It was a great day!
