3rd Grade : Open School Event

On December 6th, we had our open school event (¸ø³«¸¦µæ²ñ). Close to 500 people from all over Japan came to watch our classes. Thank you for coming! Thank you to everyone who helped with the preparations and smooth running of the event, too.

The 3rd grade students had their fourth class on the topic "This is for you". You can see the previous three classes here:

We started the class with our usual greetings.

Next, we did the `Greeting Game`. The students had to give good reactions and to praise something about their friends.

Next, we reviewed the names for shapes in English.
"What's this?"

After reviewing shapes we did the "What do you want?" chant.

Then, we reviewed how to ask and answer what someone wants.

After reviewing we had `Teacher Talk`.
"Look. Cat cards. This is for you! What do you want?"

We reviewed the goal for the class together and then the teachers did a demonstration of the main activity.

The teachers had prepared many shapes, stickers and different colored cards for the students to use.

The students made pairs and ask each other many questions in order to make cards.

Half-way through the activity the teachers asked some students to give a good demonstration.

Next, everyone tried to think about the good points of the demonstration as the pairs swapped roles.

The students covered their eyes as their friends finished the cards and wrote a message to them in Japanese.

After everyone completed their cards they gave them to their friends.

The students talked about their cards and why their friends made them.

We finished the class with the students reflections on the class and saying goodbye.

3rd Grade : Collect 5!

3rd grade students had their third class on the topic `This is for you`. They continued to practice using the phrase `What do you want?`.

We started class with our usual greeting game. The students had to praise one thing about the other person after asking them "How are you?".

After the greeting game we did the chant.

After practicing the names for shapes, we also practiced how to ask and answer the question "What do you want?". We reviewed by doing the same activity as the previous class.

Then it was time for Teacher Talk. The teachers like to show the many different situations that the phrase `What do you want?` can be used. This time they pretended to be at the supermarket.

After that we played the `Collect 5` game. The teachers gave a demonstration first so the students understood what to do. The students had 5 cards with shapes on them. They tried to collect 5 of the same shape.

Halfway through the activity the teachers picked some students to give a good example.

3rd Grade : What do you want?

3rd grade students had their second class on the topic `This is for you`. In the last class the students studied the names for shapes in English and realised the different kinds of cards that people send. In this class we introduced the phrase "What do you want?".

First, we reviewed the names for shapes.
