5th Grade : Let's play Collect 5!

5th grade students had their second class studying Hi,friends!1 Lesson 5 `What do you like?`. In this class they continued studying about shapes.

After greetings, we started class with a demonstration of our greeting game. We noticed that many 5th grade students have been answering the questions "What ~ do you like?" with the phrase "It's ~." so we used a demonstration with the homeroom teacher using the correct phrase, "I like ~.", to emphasis this.

"I like basketball!"

Before the greeting game the teachers make sure to tell the students that they must speak to a certain number of boys and girls. Everyone did their best to speak to many different people.

After the greeting game the teachers picked some students and asked them who they talked to as well as what they said. If the students know they will be asked about who they talked to they try hard to remember what their friends say.

Next, Ms. Emily reviewed the pronunciation for shapes in English.
IMG_1351.jpg The word `rectangle` is the most difficult for everyone.

Then, we did the chant. We used the karaoke version and practiced splitting the chant in two so one group asked the question "What shape do you like?" and the other group answered.

After practicing as a class the students also did the chant in pairs.
IMG_1343.jpg The students could answer with their favorite shapes.

Finally we played the `Collect 5` game. Students tried to collect 5 cards with the same shape by playing janken with their friends. The winner could talk about the shape they liked and receive that shape's card.

We stopped the activity half-way through and got some students to give a good demonstration.

Next, everyone kept the good points of the demonstration in mind while they continued with the activity.

Good job 5th grade students!
